Practice Fusion’s MIPS Dashboard is an easy-to-manage tool that allows you to track your progress in three of the MIPS performance categories that CMS requires for submission for a given reporting year.

Accessing the MIPS Dashboard
From the Reports section of the Practice Fusion EHR, click on MIPS Dashboard under the Quality Reporting section (see Graphic 1).

Setting up the dashboard and adjusting MIPS settings
1. Ensure that your name and current performance year are selected in the drop-down filters in the toolbar at the top of the dashboard (see Graphic 2).
Graphic 2: Select name and performance year
2. Click Set up your reporting periods or the MIPS Settings link (see Graphic 3)
When setting up any of the performance year Quality reporting dashboards for the first time you will need to opt-in to run performance calculations for your practice.

3. Select your reporting periods, and click Save (see Graphic 4 below). After choosing a reporting period, the data can take up to 48 hours to be displayed.
- For both the Promoting Interoperability reporting period and the Improvement Activities reporting period, you can select a full year or a custom 90-day period. For Quality Dashboard reporting period, a full year is the only available option.
- If you are not yet sure of the reporting period(s) you’d like to pursue, you can select the “Full year” option to get started and later adjust your reporting period at any time during the calendar year.
4. If you want to change your reporting period during the year after initial set-up, use the MIPS settings in the top right corner of the dashboard.

Navigating through the MIPS performance categories
The MIPS Dashboard is separated into four sections corresponding to each of the four MIPS performance categories.
Each section consists of a card with an explanation of the category and how it’s weighted in the final score along with the category’s performance measures. To jump to a card, click the corresponding link beneath the dashboard toolbar (see Graphic 5).
For information on requirements for each performance category, see MIPS Requirements or visit qpp.cms.gov.

Promoting Interoperability
On the Promoting Interoperability card, you can access available PI measures, including the required attestations (see Graphic 6).
Click the link for details about a measure. To access more detailed information about each measure, click the Additional resources for this measure link in the measure description.

Improvement Activities
On the Improvement Activities card, you can access a complete list of the improvement activities for this MIPS performance category.
To start tracking measures, click the Add measures link thenuse the filters at the top of the list to quickly search for specific improvement activities (see Graphic 7).
Select an activity from the list to view the measure details and press the Save to Dashboard button to start tracking it (see Graphic 8). There is no limit to the number of measures that can be tracked on the Improvement Activities card.

Quality
Click the Add measures link on the Quality card to see a list of the eCQMs that Practice Fusion supports for the current performance year (see Graphic 9).
Select an item from the list to see the measure details and the current measure score. For a suggested workflow, click the Learn more about completing this measure link. Press the Save to dashboard button to start tracking the measure on the Quality card (see Graphic 10).
Alternatively, you can start tracking the measure on the eCQM Dashboard. From there, mark 20xx MIPS Dashboard from the Add to dashboards drop-down checklist on the measure.

Cost
The Cost card only contains information about the performance category. Since Medicare uses your claims data to calculate the Cost performance category score, you don’t have to submit any additional EHR data.
How does the Dashboard data update?
For measure calculations that are based on patients seen during the performance period, patients are recognized as “seen during the performance period” when they have at least one signed encounter with a date of service during the performance period and an encounter type matching the measure specifications (located in each relevant suggested workflow article).
- The MIPS Dashboard calculations update every 48 hours.
- If you do not see measure progress on your Dashboard for measures based on unique patients seen during the performance period, make sure you have signed your relevant patient encounters and that the encounters have the correct encounter type selected. Measure credit will calculate for the MIPS eligible clinician who signs the encounter.
Reporting and printing the MIPS Dashboard
Practice Fusion customers participating in the Quality Payment program can download QRDA III files for the Quality category. These files will be uploaded to the QPP website to manually attest. For the Promoting Interoperability and Improvement Activities categories the data from the dashboard will be input on the QPP website for submissions.
To print any sections of the MIPS Dashboard, select the option from the Actions drop-down menu in the upper right corner (see Graphic 11). You will have the option to print:
- All MIPS Dashboards
- The Promoting Interoperability Dashboard
- The Improvement Activities Dashboard
- The Quality Dashboard
- Cost

Reminder: Practice Fusion provides the MIPS Dashboard as a tool to assist providers with tracking performance and reporting for participation in MIPS. Providers must still independently: (1) confirm that the underlying information was properly entered into Practice Fusion, instructions for which are available at the Practice Fusion Knowledge Base; (2) review all reporting information for its accuracy and applicability to their particular practice(s); and (3) retain documentation that supports the data reported for their participation in MIPS, as required by CMS document retention policies.
